Often the most confusing thing people find when insuring their house is home emergency cover. Some insurers still keep this as a separate product, rightly so in our opinion, which you can buy to insure your house against its own ageing and failures such as pipes bursting, boilers breaking down and electrics shorting out. This is very different to the cover that is insuring your home against damage from nature or accidents such as tiles being blown off and windows being smashed by footballs. When you see the words "home emergency cover included" listed under your home insurance quote you might be tempted to believe that you are covered for all types of accident or damage. Always ask for a full and separate listing of the things that are covered by such emergency services before going ahead so you can decide whether you need a further insurance policy elsewhere to protect you from all boiler or electrical issues. Despite the huge rise in the cost buying a house, home insuring costs have not risen with them. This is because, although property prices have skyrocketed in recent years, the price of bricks and mortar have not. Actually rebuilding your home will not cost dramatically more than what it would have before the house market boom. Indeed, many insurers have an automatic re-building limit of ?1million despite the valuation on your residence. One perk that has been introduced with the age of the internet is faster claims processes. Many of the major firms that insure homes still use the process of sending back bits of paper for 3-6 months before settling a claim, hopefully in the near future all will favour an online claims process where claims can be settle in a matter of days, not months. †
