AsdaFinance.com is the website owned and operated by ASDA Stores Limited, (part of Wal-Mart Inc.) Though website was first registered in November 2000, Asda Insurance didn't kick off until 2004 when Asda announced they were going to promote life insurance to shoppers, making information available both in store and online, but at this time all sales were made over the telephone.

Today the website is a one stop shop for financial services, such as credit cards, savings, loans, foreign currency exchange, as well as motor, pet and home insurance and you can receive a quote, apply for and buy online.

Asda do not actually offer advice on financial services or products but introduce prospective customers to their financial service partners. In this way pet insurance, house, travel and car insurance are provided by Norwich Union Insurance and mortgage life insurance and general life insurance provided by LifeSearch Ltd.

These partners will also have their own partners available for specialist products as in the case of Norwich Union who use BDML Connect Limited for car, home and van insurance and Allianz Insurance Plc to provide pet insurance. Confused? Well, that's how most insurers work these days - it's not limited to supermarket branch-offs.

Asda has partnered with the RAC to provide breakdown cover including roadside, at home, recovery, accident and legal care and have been nominated in the "Your Money Direct Awards 2008" as the "Best Online Breakdown Provider".

Real Life Cover available from Asda in conjunction with LifeSearch offers an all-inclusive protection package, which combines life insurance, income protection, critical illness, recuperation cover and a lump sum insurance if you have to stop work to care for a partner or child, plus an option for unemployment cover.

With this insurance you make a payment once a month and receive financial cover for all eventualities should anything prevent you from being able to work and earn a living. If you need to make a claim then there are two funds available, the life fund and the living fund. When you buy combined home and buildings insurance from Asda online you will usually receive a discount and optional extras include cover for personal belongings and bicycles if you are away from home and accidental damage including sofas, carpets, curtains and other soft furnishings.

Travel insurance from Asda promises large possible savings on other travel insurance policies bought at the same time you buy your holiday. It includes medical expenses and personal liability and you can choose from single or multi-trip cover. Optional extras include winter sports cover and damaged, lost or stolen luggage and there is a travel advice line and a claims line, which is available 24/7. The website also has a facility for you to read the full policy document online.

Asda pet insurance is available for cats and dogs aged between eight weeks and eight years to cover costs of veterinary treatment up to a certain amount for each illness or injury. This insurance includes cover for surgery, medication, x-rays and nursing care and there are many optional extras to suit your budget and needs, such as third party liability, additional vet cover and pet travel insurance. Aside from the related breakdown cover, the Asda Finance website also offers a free independent service to help you find the best supplier for your gas and electricity and as well as finding the best deal, they will sort out the relevant paperwork and switch supplier for you. 28/10/2008 Asda's main page is cluttered and the link to its financial services is not immediately obvious, but once you locate it, the site is easy to use. Asda Financial Services is a bit of a misnomer: they basically have several insurance companies who work with them, so all Asda really do is act as a gateway. Their home insurance form was a bit confusing, asking about the number of valuables in the home - I took this to mean TVs, computers etc but it turned out they meant gold or art (which I don't own any of). Their quote was the cheapest I've had so far, so I'll consider using them.
