Hiscox Insurance is a company that dates back to 1901 originating from the Roberts agency that began life underwriting marine insurance for Lloyds. Today Hiscox offer profession specific business insurance, home insurance and are known for their policies covering kidnapping, fine art and natural disasters.
In 1987 Hiscox Holding Ltd was created as a holding company with two ancillaries, Hiscox Syndicates Ltd and Roberts and Hiscox Ltd and this was followed in 1989 with the formation of Hiscox Underwriting Ltd, but in 1994 Hiscox Holdings de-merged and in 1996 Hiscox PLC was formed becoming listed on the UK Stock Exchange the following year.
With the launch of Hiscox Online in the year 2000 they became the first company selling insurance on the Internet for owners of valuable homes and in 2006 they moved from the UK to Bermuda and adopted the new name Hiscox Ltd.

Hiscox Insurance
04/02/2010 A little strange. I applied for insurance with them, got it, but then on phoning up to ask about increasing my coverage as I run a website (professional indemnity insurance) they said they would have to cancel my insurance and put me through a broker. How does that work? How is Hiscox insurance through a broker any different from the usual stuff?
