Whilst this Leamington Spa based broker offers the usual home, travel and motor insurance policies that you see on countless websites, it also has a range of cover that far exceeds the normal types.

Even under the regular headings there is non-standard cover, with motor cover provided for classic, American and non-standard cars and drivers - while house insurances include let and unoccupied properties plus holiday homes in the UK and overseas. Vehicle insurance is also provided for motor homes of various kinds, static and touring caravans, all types of motorcycles, vans and trucks. There's even a section devoted to the motor trade, another for taxi and minibus operators, while pleasure craft owners aren't forgotten with cover ranging from canoes and kayaks up to your average lottery winner's luxury yacht.

Breakdown cover, provided by Equity Red Star, is available for all categories of vehicles while travel insurance has the usual levels of cover and also provides for pre-existing medical conditions, gap year trips and activity holidays. Business insurance is provided for various operations, including hotels, shops, offices and contractors. Pet insurance is for dogs, cats and horses, and is provided by E&L insurance, which also arranges policies for UK and overseas weddings in case of problems on the special day.

Finally, under the long list of categories, is a 'Health and Wealth' section that includes health insuring, credit cards, gas, electricity and savings products, putting the company firmly up against the big boys in the increasingly overcrowded comparison site market. However, this part of the service is generally handled by teaming up with other providers (such as SQ2 for business and corporate lending, WPA for health cover, uSwitch for personal loans and cards, and Squirrel Financial Management for savings and investments). In many cases, there's either a link to their websites or the completion and submission of an online form to be processed later. So, perhaps it's not competing on level terms with the big boys just yet.

Certainly, Insurance Choices branding is unlikely to be as catching as Money Supermarket or USwitch and it doesn't help that www.insurancechoice.com is owned by someone else (the official site for this company is www.insurancechoice.co.uk).

One difference is that they appear to be an independent, family business with Keith Pyatt as its senior partner and Gail Pyatt as a consultant, but with various other non-family 'key staff' listed and all having extensive insuring experience. It promotes itself as an online insurance broker that offers a personal service and passes the savings that result from internet buying to its customers. The website has a number of buyers' guides and tips that are intended to help customers get the best cover at the cheapest price. †

07/08/2009 I'm a "browser bar typer" which means that I avoid search engines as much as possible (a review for another site perhaps?) but also that often I end up on websites that have no real content -- called "parked" websites. The design of insurancechoice's site led me to believe I had landed there. So I used a search engine and it took me to the same place. Just my opinion, but the design leaves a lot to be desired. In the end, they couldn't cover my particular business type so I have no idea of the service.
