Based in Crawley, West Sussex and near to Gatwick Airport, it's perhaps not surprising that this company specialises in travel insurance. All policies are provided by Europ Assistance Holdings Ltd, which is part of the Worldwide Europ Assistance Group.
Established in 1963, it is owned by the Generali Group, an Italian group that is a significant player in the global insurance and financial products market. (Although, if Aviva felt it needed to change it's name, maybe an Italian insurer called "Generali" might make similar considerations?)
The usual range of travel policies is offered, with single trip and annual policies in premier, standard and economy versions, plus backpacker and golf insurance and cover for the over 65s. Policies for families are a big feature, with up to five children being covered free for each full paying adult. This means that a couple with ten children - who can somehow still manage to afford a holiday - can take them all away at the same time without paying anything for their insurance.
With many travellers now tailor-making their own holidays rather than going for a package deal, the failure of any component can be a big problem. All provided policies come with supplier failure cover, which was launched in September 2008 and can be a major benefit given the difficulties faced by some sections of the travel industry. Supplier failure cover can also be bought separately although any companies that are thought likely to go down the pan are specifically excluded. So, as always, check before you buy. Phone the insurer and ask - and tape the conversation if you can!
All products are available online, with policy details being downloaded and purchase confirmed by email, making last minute coverage a practical proposition. A telephone service is also available for those who prefer to actually talk to someone.
InsureFor.com was launched by Managing Director Antony Martin in 2003 and is a trading name of Rock Insurance Services Limited, which is a specialist travel insurance intermediary. What it actually does is develop the technology - the quoting, policy issue, renewal systems and the like - that insurance providers and brokers use to administer their own businesses. The company provides the systems and the expertise, plus it runs campaigns and has an affiliates program, for its own use and others.
Rock has a plan to move into new markets and is following an expansion programme to achieve this. Acquisitions include specialist personal insurer MRL Insurance and AIS Direct, an affinity marketing specialist that was already a user of Rock Insurance products.
Now, you're probably already reeling for the number of companies mentioned above. It seems as though online location has only been helped by keeping the brand as the website address. Indeed, the main site is www.insurefor.com with the .co.uk version also showing the same information. But, the hyphenated versions (e.g. www.insure-for.com and .co.uk) are owned by different people and www.insurefortravel.co.uk is a completely different travel coverage company. So, as always, check you are where you want to be before handing over your personal details!
