Quoting themselves as the cheapest online car insurer in the UK, the move to insurance sellers seems a natural one for KwikFit and the benefits are no less fitting either. Common promotions we've seen included a Kwik Fits discount card that can be used at any of the Kwik-Fit autocentres, as well as free MOTs (worth around £45) and sometimes cheap Sat Nav's - don't be afraid to ask what free gifts are available when getting a quote. Cover should be pretty comprehensive as well with items like courtesy cars and 24-hour windscreen replacement being standard. So if their figures add up then this wouldn't just be the cheapest quote you could get, but a great bargain for the level of cover too with savings of up to £220 apparently possible with extra money off if you buy online. Again, though, we are dealing with a brokerage style arrangment with Kwik Fit's car insurance panel consisting of 27 insurers to haggle the best quote for you. Three levels of cover as usual - comprehensive, third party fire and theft and third party only. Like most insurers they are stingy when it comes to sharing the love with the no claims bonuses. You can transfer your no claims bonus from your previous insurer but you can only apply it to one policy. Named drivers on policies have to start from scratch as do company car drivers though KwikFit hint that there is some sort of discount for not having claimed whilst on other people's policies but the level of which is not disclosed.
KwikFits home insurance products are no less littered with savings with promotions such as discounts for new customers when you switch to Kwit Fit home insurance with the common discounts such as money off when you take out buildings and contents insurance at the same time also apparent. The same deal as with motor insurance i.e. they search a panel of leading house insurers to find you the best quote. All policies come with new for old contents cover, accidental damage cover with freezer and garden cover too. Like with most companies that branch out into insuring we expect to see more items being insured through Kwik Fit, currently there is also pet, travel, van and motorbike cover available on the site but with less being shouted about them. Keep an eye out though as if the "cheapest" branding is the one KwitFit want to stay with then they will have to start pushing more offers to the motorcycle and commercial vehicles users to be an all round cheap insurance provider. One disturbing thing was that whilst on the site we noticed quite a few browser errors (we were using Internet Explorer 7) and on scrolling down there was a disclaimer at the bottom saying that if you are using Netscape navigator or any Apple Mac browser you may face difficulties whilst trying to navigate the site. Personally, we think that warning should be a bit more noticable because you can bet that the time it will crash is after the 20 minutes of online form filling and only then you'll notice the small print. Unfortunately too, they do not own the common misspellings of their name (i.e. Kwick Fit and Quik Fit) so avoid www.kwickfit.co.uk and www.quikfit.co.uk plus the .com versions of both as they are owned by different companies, best to bookmark the www.kwik-fitinsurance.com site because they don't even own www.kwik-fitinsurance.co.uk either. Of course, links to all their services are available at www.kwik-fit.com with all variations of that site being owned and pointing in just fine. †

14/10/2008 Who knew Kwik Fit did insurance? Turns out they do not only car insurance but also travel, home and pet cover, though their car insurance is provided through other insurers. Their quotation form was frustratingly slow, often having to reload after I selected an option. Even though I selected a voluntary excess of zero, the quote was still competitive - it was the second-cheapest quote I've had from anyone. They also provide a 10% discount at Kwik Fit centres, a free courtesy car and £150 personal belongings cover - seems like a good deal to me.
