With a name like this and the stark pink colouration, you might think that insurance cover for pigs is being provided here. The logo does appear to be a piggy bank and the website starts trying to give the pig, which is called Albert, some churchill-dog-like character which you'll find either endearing or a bit naff. "Pot calling kettle" I hear you shout ... but at least we only named our pig (MJ) ... we've never created a story about it! ;)
In fact, this is an 'online travel insurance company' and the name is an abbreviation of online insurance company, in effect setting the category into which the company falls.
Insurance is provided only online over the internet, although there is a telephone number where help and advice are available. By restricting itself largely to online supply, the company claims to be able to keep costs to a minimum, passing the resulting savings on to its customers and thereby offering low prices. The only way to judge this, of course, is by comparing quotations against other companies which generally claim the same thing. Comparisons are provided on the website but these can sometimes be a bit selective.
Travel insurance is provided from a range of insurers and covers the usual range of single and multi-trip, extended stay, winter sports and golfing holidays with family cover available. However, the selection of companies is, apparently, restricted to those with the size and dedication necessary to keep to their commitments.
The approach is to offer a mixture of off-the-shelf policies that meet specific needs and various options for more complex requirements. Cover can include pet care costs (back to the pig theme again?) and there's also cancellation cover in the event of redundancy. Sticking to travel insurance (any other offering on the pages seems to be affiliate links), the company doesn't sell travel add-ons such as taxis, car hire, airport parking and the like -- although it does list some recommended providers on the website.
Oinc.com is actually a trading style of Europewide Ltd, based in West Grinstead, Sussex, which is an appointed representative of ITT Compliance Ltd, a company that, oddly enough, assists firms in the UK motor trade in overcoming the burden of government regulation. It does describe itself as an independent travel insurance company (one of the fastest growing in the UK, in fact). However, its customer services and complaints departments do have the same address as travel insurer InsureFor.com, which is a trading name of Rock Insurance Services Ltd. Also at the same address and with insurance provided by Rock are Dogtag Ltd, which offers '100% proof' travel insurance, and Insure plc, another provider of travel insurance.
All insurers use Europ Assistance to provide emergency assistance. This company is owned by the Italian Generali Group and, with over 5,500 employees, 300 million people insured each year and 250,000 claims and assistance cases every year, it fits neatly into the size of company that is stipulated as being used.
The likelihood is that Rock provides the system and support for the various insurance providers although the connection is all a bit unclear. Nevertheless, it does mean that Oinc is part of, or at least is associated with, a company that reckons to insure over one million customers each year. †
