Normally we are unimpressed by supermarkets looking to cash in on insurance reselling but Sainsbury's insurance services are a little different. Stemming from their own Sainsburys Bank they offer to insure your car, home, pet, life and travel. Sainsbury's car insurance tries to stay clear of the general image of budget no frills motor insurance policies generally associated with supermarket insuring by pointing out that although they are looking to make your premium lower it is not at the expense of the level of cover. Sainsburys motor insurance still comes with expected items such as courtesy cars whilst yours is being repaired and uninsured driver protection so that you don't lose your no claims bonus if someone non insured hits you, but there are extras you get with a Sainsburys car insurance policy that you don't see elsewhere such as specialised compensation and support if you fall victim to car-jacking and extra money if you had shopping (from Sainsbury obviously!) in the car that is stolen or damaged in an accident.
When you walk into your local Sainsbury and see the car insurance flyers it may not seem like quality cover is on offer but every motor insurance policy through SainsburysInsurance is underwritten by esure, a market leader in low cost insurances and part of the HBOS (Halifax Bank of Scotland) group so we would assume that if you do have to make a claim you will be getting qualified, experienced staff, not the spotty teenager that just crushed your bread at the till. To entice you to give them a try, Sainbury's will probably have plenty of discounts from time to time.
Sainsburys home insurance is a little more inviting with a huge array of discounts. Like many top insurers Sainsbury's Bank have opted to allow the build up of no claims discounts on their house cover with up to 40% no claims bonus able to be obtained if you can stay claim free with the option to protect your bonus once it reaches the acceptable level. Again, cover is very comprehensive with unlimited rebuilding costs cover and new for old replacement policies.
Sainsburys pet insurance offering meets the standards set elsewhere with two levels of cover available. A familiar face is backing this one with AXA providing the cover, whom we have seen behind several other successful pet insurance providers. Sainsburys life insurance on the other hand is provided through Legal & General, experts in the field of life cover. Both generally expected types of cover are available - term life cover and mortgage cover - with terminal illness cover standard with either. Due to the premise for life insuring always check the SainsburyInsurance website directly for currently offers and discounts as they do tend to change more often than the offers available on other types of insurances.
There is normally plenty of clarity as to how long a particular discount or extra, such as Nectar points, is going to be given with their life cover and, no matter how tacky it might look to some, shopping gift vouchers are not something you are going to turn down, right? Of course these various affiliations Sainburys has with other insuring service providers rather than providing the financial backing themselves does mean that they are not a true all in one insurer as we normally prefer, but moving your cover to consolidate them in one place should feel the same. Certainly we would expect a company with dozens of Sainsburies stores across the UK to last longer in this industry than any of these new internet insurer startups. †
