Visit SwiftCover >> Swiftcover's car insurance is the next incarnation of internet only insurers looking to capitalise on the huge number of people looking for the cheapest car insurance possible. Swift Cover really go all out when trying to keep the cost of their motor insurance services down though - not content with just making themselves internet only, they have also created a huge list of people that they will not offer insurance to. Some you can agree with as being high risk, such as drivers under 19 or over 75, but the list goes on turning down people with various types of employment such as debt collectors, bodyguards, scrap metal dealers and market traders. We did find the inclusion of professional sports players and models to be well justified though ;) ...
Not much information about the actual standard of cover, their website focuses more on convincing you that they are the cheapest - we even found one quote saying a customer had saved ??170 compared to Elephant.co.uk which is impressive. You can protect your no claims discount though has long as you have at least four years no claims bonus behind you and you can't have made a claim against a protected policy in the last three years. They do offer breakdown recovery services but as their pricing is similar to the larger brands you will probably want to purchase your breakdown cover elsewhere as SwiftCover insurance offer no incentive to buy from them.
As part of AXA, Swift Cover's marketing campaign has focussed on the opinion that call centres are always hard to get through to and that they keep you on hold constantly. No one here has ever experienced such, indeed, every insurance company we call is only to eager to speak to us and sell us insurance. By a sheer twist of irony it will be the internet only insurers that have backlogged call centres when you try to make a claim as one would assume that if they reduce their staff numbers to cut costs the level of after sales care must also reduce. This is the problem with not being able to buy insurance with every firm to review their after sales service because, despite the huge savings you can get with some companies, it is the care and cover you have when you get in to an accident that matters most. Remember, although many of these firms tout themselves as "cheap" car insurance we feel that is misleading. To be "cheaper" you must offer the same service as someone else but a a lower price. Offering a lower price by reducing what you insure is not really any cheaper, you're just buying less. If you buy Tesco brand jaffa cakes and they are the same as McVities only costing less, that is cheaper - if you buy Tesco brand jaffa cakes and they have the orange centre missing, then that's not cheaper, it's just less. We would love to hear you comments on this company to give us more insight to see whether Swifts car insurance cover falls into that category.
Note should be made on navigation as although you can find them at their offical site www.swiftcover.co.uk (with www.swiftcover.com working just fine too) - they have not purchased what would seem to be an obvious error type-in with both www.swiftinsurance.co.uk and www.swiftinsurance.com being owned by other firms, though advertising companies with similar services, so be aware of where you are and bookmark/favourite the correct site to ensure no mixups if you plan on returning later. We've noticed many attempting www.swift.co.uk in our search function but both that site and www.swift.com are owned by financial firms that generally deal in loans and appear to have absolutely no connection with the UK insurer. †

15/10/2009 Yes the are cheap, but you get what you pay for. Unless you've had to make a claim then your review is pointless. They are very slow and do not keep their so called track your claim on their website up to date. Ring them and they'll say its being looked at. Worst company, not so swift...you have been warned.
