YesInsurance car insurance certainly has some big names backing it with their policies being adminstered by BISL (you'll know them as Budget) and a sister company in the form of Provident Insurance but one has to ask, why do we need yet another broker service? Yes Insurance's motor insurance panel consists of 20 car insurance providers, all big names as usual, all offering comprehensive, TP F & T and third party only cover - nothing new there. They quote savings of up to ?185, again, pretty standard savings compared to prices quoted elsewhere. They have free gifts when you sign up like Marks & Spencer vouchers when you refer a friend, but again, standard practice amongst regular insurers and brokers alike. The only difference we can see with this brokerage and every other one out there is that their website is slightly more colourful and less formal making it more inviting. They do state a specialisation of sorts in that if your car is five years old or more you get an extra discount as your car will be cheaper to repair or replace in the event of an accident which makes you less of a liability. Sure enough, we have seen some shortfalls with other insurers which band most cars into sub-?1000, sub-?30,000 and then the rest which means that if you own a brand new Kia or a brand new BMW you get no difference in insurance other than the group value. Other offerings from YesInsurance include van insurance and home cover, again brokering, with names like AXA, Royal & Sun Alliance, Norwich Union and so on with varying levels of cover. Pet insurance is available but cover levels are modest and some breeds can only be insured up to five years old. All in all a pretty standard experience with standard cover from standard insurers from a standard brokerage.
As is typical for more generically named insurers, navigation becomes an issue on the web as the domains names have often been bought up before the creation of the company. This one is no exception with www.yesinsurance.com being owned by a company in the US, though offering similar services. The offical site, which you should probably bookmark just incase, is www.yesinsurance.co.uk and all their services can be had from that location. The same goes for the hyphenated versions of these domains. †

06/05/2010 Ihad a years car insurance policy with YES. Halfway through i changed cars and upsated the policy - all fine. 6 weeks after my policy ended and i had changed insurer, Yes contacted me to advise i owed them more money (I no longer even had a policy with them!) because their system had under-caclculated my quote - 8 months before! When i refused to pay, they threatened to pass me on to bailiffs. The phone person was not the least surprised by the situation - you would expect them to be; offered to halve the amount straight away, and very quick to threaten debt collection. Only when i threatened consumer watchdogs / ombudsman etc did they back down.
