More Th>n Takes Business Insurance to the Women Only Marketplace: It seems that car insurance isn't the only place we can expect to see new, specifically tailored products aimed at women. With an increase in female entrepreneurs, thanks to programs such as the BBC's Dragons Den, More Th>n has developed business insurance for women.
The insurer announces the product alongside the figures that 27% of all self-employed people in Britain are women which gives roughly 620,000 female led insurable businesses out there. Their research has shown that women prefer to talk to other women about business development causing More Th>n to create a wholly female business support team to both sell, and manage, their tailored small business insurance policies giving customers a helpline for everything from legal and tax advice issues to stress management. Even though premuims are expected to be low for most small businesses, they are also offering monthly payment structures with no extra charge.
A press release earlier this year by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) stated that women are more likely to give up on self-employment than men when the going gets tough with estimated causes being the lack of support. One would therefore expect more insurers to follow in More Th>n's footsteps in providing specialist cover for businesswomen especially in light of the huge success women's only car insurance has been for the specialist providers.
Naturally, insurance isn't the only place targeting the rising number of people choosing to work for themselves. Many banks are developing their product range to tempt entrepreneurs who's eagerness to build a business can often exceed their knowledge of taxation and legal requirements. Many have set up helplines to attach to business accounts but on contacting one myself I was disappointed to gather than the people on the other end tended to be more researchers than experts with "I'll look into it and call you back" being the staple of the discussion rather than clear cut advice from an expert. Hopefully with stiff competition, the background services will have to improve to retain customers. †
