Direct Line Home Insurance Reveals Britain's Accident-Prone Nature: Direct Line has produced a survey revealing the costs of general damaged items in the British home. They polled over 2,000 people and found that the average amount spent replacing items that had been damaged was around £200 a year. This included ornaments, furnishings and other home contents as opposed to any damages to the structures within the home.
The most commonly mentioned items were something out of a TV advert themselves with spilling red wine and breaking vases topping the list.
In light of the survey Direct Line announced that they are now offering free accidental damage cover on all home insurance policies taken out for contents cover with a 10% discount on that addition the following year if no claims have been made.
With most home insurance policies for contents cover being under the researched average of £200 it would seem a little curious as to why people would not attach such to their policy. †
