Bookmark and ShareFreezing your baby's umbilical cord blood and tissue: >>>> A Cheshire family have become the first in the UK to cryogenically freeze their new baby's umbilical cord blood and tissue as a health insurance policy for their child's future. Mum, Paula Daniels who works at a private birth centre in Northwich paid £2000 to have the blood and tissue stored by Future Health Technologies in Nottingham. While blood storage is widespread, the storage of tissue is new. It is considered that tissue can be even more helpful in the treatment of diseases such as cancer.


>>>> Two company directors from Ramsbottom have been charged with conspiracy to defraud policy holders and insurance companies after being accused of selling non-existent policies from their "Ideal Insurance" company. The company specialised in selling policies to commercial business, in particular Public Liability Insurance. They have also been charged with issuing false Authorised Insurance Certificates. The cases will continue in January 2010.


>>>> Tim Nicholson of London is suing his former employer for discrimination based on his environmental beliefs. He has been given the go-ahead to sue Grainger PLC for unfair dismissal under the Employment Equality (Religion and Belief) Regulations 2003. He had wanted to set up a carbon management system in his office, but other staff had refused to give him the required details. He was subsequently let go for "operational reasons". He believes it was based on his beliefs about the environment. A judge has agreed and has said his philosophical beliefs should be protected by the 2003 regulations.


>>>> The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency has issued 5 flood warnings for the region including one severe warning for the River Dulnain. Another 5 warnings have been issued across England and authorities in Wales have been on high alert for the past two days. Steve Chelton of Swinton Insurance has pointed out that the recent storms have highlighted the need for good home insurance and to check you are fully covered.


>>>> Legal & General boss, Tim Breedon, has said in the Daily Mail this week that the insurance industry is experiencing improved confidence particularly in the pensions and life assurance areas. He has also revealed that L&G had a 7% drop in sales during the last 9 months but expected modest improvement over the next year. Shares in the company did improve by 25% during one week of last month due to speculation about a possible takeover.


>>>> Finance union Unite has pointed out that a possible 25,000 bank jobs could be lost following the forced sale of RBS and Lloyds TSB bank branches and insurance businesses. RBS have admitted that 6000 jobs could be at stake. It is expected that 900 branches in total will be up for sale over the next four year following the restructuring process.


>>>> Conservatives have said that they will not sever diplomatic and commercial ties with Libya even if the hoped for compensation payments to IRA victims are not made. A delegation which has been visiting Libya last week have said that the talks were fruitful, but still had a long way to go.


>>>> PC Mark Jones of the Metropolitan Police Territorial Support Group was cleared yesterday of a racially motivated attack on 2 teenagers. However it emerged following the trial that he had been involved in another attack on a Muslim man during a police raid which led to the MET paying £60,000 to the man's family. The MET admitted "gross brutality" but no police officers were charged with any crime. The jury in yesterdays trial were not aware of the previous incident. The family of the two teenagers are asking that Mr Jones be tried over the Muslim attack.


>>>> US research has shown that drivers who adorn their cars with stickers and ornaments are more likely to be involved in road rage incidents than those with unadorned cars. Swiftcover have been comparing this research with their own claims and have found no such correlation in this country. They discovered that only 3% of UK drivers place stickers on their cars and 13% had ornaments hanging from their rear vision mirrors. Just 2% had the ubiquitous fluffy dice. † Bookmark and Share
