NCD News: Compensation Culture Britain says - "Get 'em started young!" - 16.11.09

Bookmark and ShareCompensation Culture Britain says - "Get 'em started young!": >>>> A 3 year old boy who was attacked by another toddler in a car has won the right to ask for compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. Jay Williams was hit on the head by another boy with a car jack when they were left alone in a car. He received a serious head wound which required stitches. While the other boy was never prosecuted due to his age, Jay's parents had to prove the act was deliberate. The case had been heard by CICA twice before it was agreed they could proceed. The ruling could open the floodgates for more compensation claims to the taxpayer-funded CICA involving childhood fights and accidents.

>>>> The star of the Comparethemarket.com adverts, Aleksander Orlov (the meerkat) is to star in a podcast where he interviews celebrities. The first is due to be released this week and will feature Do-Anything-David Hasslehoff. It can be downloaded from the comparison site or from iTunes. Already enjoying a cult following on Facebook and Twitter, the cravat wearing meerkat has even been turned into a toy for Christmas to be sold exclusively by Harrods. A donation from each sale will go to the London zoo. One thing is for sure, some marketing exec will be receiving a hefty bonus and party thrown in their honour by Comparethemarket.com bosses!

>>>> Despite an increase in burglaries, Sainsburys Insurance has revealed that they are seeing fewer home insurance claims. They believe this may be down to fewer people taking out policies. The Home Office have reported an increase in home thefts of 2.8%, while insurance claims have fallen by 13% during the first part of this year. Sainsburys also revealed that 1 million customers had cancelled their home insurance policies with them this year.

>>>> A new product has been launched by PruProtect. The Essentials range will offer life insurance as a single product, or life with serious illness cover combined. Available online only, the product has removed some features from their existing PruProtect plan to make it more affordable. Prudential product Director Deepak Jobanputra, has said that more new products are expected over the coming months.

>>>> Tottenham Hotspur player, Carlo Cudicini may have trouble receiving the full insurance claim from the Club's insurer after he suffered serious injuries in a motorbike accident. His contract contains a clause which states he must not engage in activities which might affect his ability to play. While the clause does not specify motorbikes, the accident could still affect his insurance claim.

>>>> According to Allclear the medical insurance specialist, 60% of people buying travel insurance fail to reveal important medical facts which may end up invalidating their policy should they become ill overseas. With the average cost of repatriation at £25,000, the need to have good travel insurance is obvious. Allclear believe that a fear of increased premiums or a lack of understanding about the importance of revealing medical problems may be behind the problem.

>>>> The problem of pirates in the Gulf of Aden continues to rise. The number of attacks in the region in the first 9 months of this year has already exceeded the total number for last year. Clive Stoddart, the kidnap and ransom team leader for Aon has warned that marine policies often do not provide piracy cover and specialist policies may be a better option. Of the 661 people kidnapped this year, 8 people are still missing and another 6 have been confirmed to have been killed.

>>>> The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen is said to be in a deadlock after India has stated that they need more global support to be able to achieve the expected carbon savings. It is being argued that economic growth and climate change do not necessarily go together and that a collaborative approach is needed to overcome the difficulties faced by growing economies such as India.

>>>> Legal & General are offering customers with two or more of their insurance products a discount on their premiums. Starting at a £1.50 discount per month for two policies and increasing by £1.50 for each additional product. L&G point out that buying the products in this way not only offers a cash incentive, but is also more convenient. For those of you with incredibly cheap insurance products with Legal & General this will seem like quite a high percentage off your yearly cost. For those of you with incredibly expensive insurance, this will seem slightly pointless. † Bookmark and Share
