Legal and General Insurance [Full Article] We are impressed that Legal & General have restricted themselves to only offering products that they have long term experience in and resources for. Rather than jumping into car, pet and every other type of insuring out there, they have stuck to similar products to their renown skills with investments and pensions by offering to insure your home (probably everyone's biggest investment in life) and your actual life. 31/03/2010 L&G are a joke - submitted claim for leaking shower which they lost/had no record of - when I resubmitted they wouldn't honour as they said the leak was gradual - yes became graually worse because they lost the claim!! Had been insured for 10+ years with them & no claims - will not be renewing.
25/02/2010 Just tried to make a claim with L&G after discovering a leak under toilet had soaked joists, around £4000 of repairs needing done - they say I should have known about it as the leak had been going for over a year, but it was below the surface on the tiles, only when a tile broke did we discover, there is a get out for 'sustained gradual damage' - beware!
01/02/2010 I've got to agree with the latest comments on here - Legal & General are joke when it comes to making a claim. I too have been subjected to their 'we dont match items' statement, meaning the damaged carpet they are replacing will not match the same carpet I have in every adjoining room! They have picked the cheapest, which is nothing like the one I had!
30/11/2009 Quote "Becareful Legal and General have a clause says that do not need to match items to your design" Same as all other insurance companies.
27/10/2009 26/10/09 escape of water in shower room. I put my claim in May since then legal and general who use Merlin have failed to resolve the problem and try to bully us into accepting tiles that are not of the same quality and a quote so low that when checked with other builders say they can't do the work for that much and it is unrealistic. Becareful Legal and General have a clause says that do not need to match items to your design
27/08/2009 i have accomadation cover on my policy as my flat is not livable after a major pipe came apart, i told the loss adjustor i wanted to use this he made it as differcult as possible.Saying it would be impossible to rent something for 5 weeks while the work on my flat was done, because it is not cost affective i have £10,000 cover?.Dont take my money if you are not going to cover me when i need it.
17/08/2009 17.08.09.Our fridge freezer defrosted whilst we were on holiday, due to power cut.The water leakage damaged our new kitchen units.L&G are refusing the claim. It's the only claim I have ever made and I am disgusted.Don't touch L&G.I have just changed insurer.
02/07/2009 How are these for comments! On Wednesday morning this week my wife & I woke to find one of our bedrooms water damaged by a terrific rain storm we had had during the night. On contacting your claims dept.to submit a claim I was told in no certain manner that I had no chance of a claim, because after the lady I had spoken to consuted a weather chart for this area she said there had not been enough rain!Well considering that my water butt was emty Tues. night & overflowing Wed. morning I reckon there had been more than a drop or two.According to my policy, I'm covered for flood & storm damage. If your'e not going to sort out my claim, dont bother to send a renewal form.
05/02/2009 I am in the same position as the person who made a commment on the 11.11.08.It is three weeks today since I had a flood which has resulted in two rooms and hall been flooded. The ceiling needs replacing in the lounge the floor in the hall and dining room needs to come up.As we live about 120miles from the nearest contractors they use all they are offering us 1706 to replace the floor, ceiling, wallpaper and labour to do these jobs.L&G said as only two walls were damaged they were only allowing wallpaper for these two walls. They to want a sample of wallpaper as I told them it was 17 per roll. How can you paper one wall and the other three will be different.I thought it was new for old. This is first claim in 44yrs.
11/11/2008 I took home insurance from Legal and General over two years ago, I had to make a claim, which I ended up withdrawing my claim and replacing the carpet myself, I have never had to make a claim before and found the process totally outrageous, I endured a 50 min.tel. call having to repeat everything twice then was told to send in photographs of the damaged carpet but they wanted every angle of my livingroom taken AND every piece of furniture in my lounge, there are other reviews about L and G Critical cover which I wish I had read before taking out a policy, because it seems they'll do anything except pay out. Your made to feel like a criminal hence the reason I cancelled my policy.
01/11/2008 The strangest question I've ever been asked when getting a home insurance quote is from Legal and general - "what is your roof made of?" Living in Scotland their other questions seemed very strange also, such as "approximate year house was built" ... ummm, somewhere between 1801 and 1901 I think, just like every one of my neighbour's houses! I don't know who they hired to work out their quote form but it's like nothing I've seen anywhere else, that's for sure!
29/10/2008 Legal and General do a 15% discount for buying home insurance online, plus another 20% discount for three or more years claim-free insurance, which seems a good deal. Their key features and overall policy were flagged up early on, which I liked. The form was easy and quite short. The quote they gave me was about £50 more expensive than the cheapest I've had, but still over £200 less than the most expensive one, so they're quite competitive. Their process seemed very straightforward, so I'd consider using them for home insurance.
07/10/2008 Disappointed that they do not provide a normal telephone number for making contact. Only national 08xxx numbers which can be costly.
18/08/2008 Really happy with their home insurance policy - recommend to any person to read the fine print of any home insurrance. It took me all day to find exactly what I wanted, very pleased with the product/service policy of Legal and General, even the customer service team are very helpful and dont force a sale down your throat. Rather, they guide you to your own personal/home insurance needs.
15/06/2008 Some parts of the site were contradictory - i.e. it said you could save up to 38% online, but later only said you could save 15%. Overall the site was well laid out though, easy to use, clearly marked where you could find more info. Quote was normal kind of length and all the usual questions, although I find the drop-down menus for dates more bothersome than some sites where you get to just type them in. Nice key features document which was quite long, but easy to understand - very clear what was and wasn't covered. Also easy to find all the info about making claims, cancelling policy etc.
13/06/2008 This is typical of the websites put together by the bigger insurance companies. I found it to be well laid out, process of finding and applying for an insurance quote was reasonably easy. Nothing particularly informative but nothing to complain about either. Corporate to the bone.
26/05/2008 Travel, life and home insurance. Site simple, however there are so many conditions you must meet to join them. They refused a contents insurance quote because my flat is not a fortress! Travel insurance is not possible if you or anyone you know has ever been poorly, and might stop you going on holiday. Good cover but an uninspiring price. There is much better than this out there. They almost make you feel apologetic for being human!
